Philips has been in the at-home light-based hair removal space longer than most competitors, and the 9000 Series represents their current flagship. We tested all four included attachments across a full treatment course.
The Four Attachments
The 9000 Series ships with dedicated attachments for body, face, bikini, and underarms — each sized and shaped appropriately for its target area rather than relying on a single one-size-fits-all head. The facial precision attachment in particular made upper lip treatment noticeably more controlled than attempting the same area with a body-sized head.
SenseIQ Technology
Philips' auto-sensing system scans skin tone and hair density before each flash and adjusts intensity accordingly, similar in concept to Braun's SensoAdapt. In practice, this worked reliably across all four attachments, removing manual guesswork consistently regardless of which body area we were treating.
Corded and Cordless Flexibility
The 9000 Series can run corded (for uninterrupted full-body sessions without worrying about battery) or cordless (for convenience on smaller touch-up sessions). This flexibility was genuinely useful — full-leg sessions on cord power meant never pausing mid-session for a battery check, while quick bikini-line touch-ups were easy to do cordless.
Results
Consistent with the general IPL timeline: minimal change in the first 2 weeks, visible thinning by weeks 4-6, and substantial reduction on legs and underarms by the 3-month mark. The dedicated facial attachment produced noticeably better upper-lip results than we'd expect from a generic attachment, likely due to more precise, consistent contact on a small, curved area.
Comfort
No dedicated cooling system, similar to the Braun Pro 5. Comfort was in line with expectations — mild sting per flash, more noticeable on the bikini and facial attachments than on the larger body attachment.
Price Consideration
At the higher end of the consumer IPL price range, the 9000 Series is a meaningful investment. The value case rests heavily on whether you'll actually use all four attachments — if you only plan to treat legs and underarms, a less expensive device without the specialized facial and bikini heads may deliver similar core results for less money.
Verdict
The dedicated attachments are the real differentiator here, and they deliver a genuinely more precise experience on facial and bikini areas than generic one-head devices. Worth the premium specifically for users who plan to treat multiple different body areas, including the face.
